Some Time May Have Passed

If there is anyone at all still following this webcomic, hello again.

I have this ancient external hard-drive that I occasionally use to back up all my music/TV shows/Minecraft worlds or whatever. But what it also contains - which I will inevitably look through and reminisce over every time I plug the thing in - is Game Stew. All the comics, graphics for the SJ site, demos of the ill-fated game I barely started when I still wanted to be a game developer for a living; it's all there. And looking through that will always prompt me to open up this here SmackJeeves comic page again, and stare woefully at the "latest" strip: Episode 1, Strip 49.

I started Game Stew over five years ago now, and every time I see it again it irks me that I never completed this story arc. I didn't really care about finishing off the story completely; even the end of Episode 1 left several plot threads open, but that was intended to set up the main story arc for Episode 2. I did actually have some quite grand ideas for a second Episode, mainly involving the world Sonic would have ended up in after jumping through that portal. But oh well, I guess it'll never see the light of day.

Don't get me wrong, I don't really care that much about not finishing it. I only get all glassy-eyed and reminiscent whenever I look through the comics on my old hard-drive, and even that's once in a blue moon. Of course, it would be nice to finally do a strip #50, if only so I get the satisfaction that I've actually finished some creative project at some point. But on the other hand, it would be about as fulfilling to just delete all of the old sprite sheets and what-have-you from my hard-drive and just forget about Game Stew completely.

So will I ever make a strip #50? I'd say watch this space. I'm much more proficient at image editing and I generally have a much better attention span than I did two and a half years ago (when I completed the last strip), so I could probably end up rattling off a pretty decent 50th strip in a few hours or so. I still remember pretty much exactly what I was going to do for #50 story-wise, how I was going to tie up the whole Solid Snake plot thread and re-unite Sonic and Tails at last (seriously, the last time both characters appeared in the same strip was nearly four years ago). So keep an eye out to see if this ancient behemoth will once again rear its ugly head, but don't expect any miracles.

Game Stew Issue #50

I've got something special in store for #50, but whether or not I will be able to finish it before next Monday (when I go to America for 2 weeks) is debatable. However, I should be able to get all the tools I need to make #50 on my laptop, so I may be able to have it ready to upload as soon as I get home(or, if there's internet access where I'm staying, I could upload while I'm there)!

Also I'm going into hospital for an operation on 27th July, so I'm gonna be pretty much bed-bound for three weeks after that. Plenty of time to work on Episode two!

Oh and don't forget to keep voting for Game Stew at TWC! The link is on the homepage.

HEY GUYS

I was looking through my old hard drive the other day and it turned out I had a Game Stew #49 just ready and waiting to be assembled that I had totally forgotten about. Such is life.

The Story So Far...

Yeah, I got rid of it. Nobody read it. Instead, I've created a simple notes section next to each comic, to provide some insight into how I made a particular issue, and some pieces of trivia, too.

Tidy-up.

With Game Stew Episode One nearing its conclusion, I'm cleaning up the comic archive by getting rid of the needless interruptions. This means I have deleted the following:

- The '07 Christmas Sprite Party between #15 and #16.
- The explanation comic between Filler #3 and #43.
- Filler #4 between #45 and #46, because it sucked.

I am also - in the time between episodes one and two - going to be editing the first few comics to match the newer style. (I'm not going to be changing the speech bubbles, just the border.)
Hope you enjoy the finale to Episode One!

Aknowledgement plz.

If I'm going to revive the comic, the least I could ask for is my biggest fans to revive their intrest in it. I'm looking at YOU, Mr. 'Chidna, Nintendo_6444, Darkangel and Sonichu. Give a comic author something to smile about! :P

I'm busy evolving...

I will make more comics when I stop playing Spore long enough to re-gain my composure.

Ha ha, you're screwed. Unless you're all playing it too.

Top Web Comics?

I don't know if that site actually means anything anymore, but vote for me anyway. Click the button at the top of the home page. I've also removed the hand-drawn comic. Vote to see why! :P

     Latest Addition: "1-49: James Sunderland"

Pyramid head sprites that are completely un-posable. Fantastic.
